Getting involved

We regularly offer short-term volunteering opportunities for young people, aged 16 to 25, with an interest in pursuing a career in the environmental/countryside sector. Its a great way of making new friends, getting out into the countryside and helping to make a difference to a great cause. Find out our various ways of volunteering below.

Opportunities on offer

Young Volunteer Placements - Ranger Team

We a looking for Young Volunteers to work with us this Autumn. Successful applicants will be given training and development opportunities by working with current National Park staff.

Placements will develop on the job skills through a range of practical tasks, working with groups of volunteers of all abilities, and engaging and dealing with the public. Working as part of the Ranger Team placements will become actively involved in the care and management of the National Park, including its sites, woodlands and nature reserves.

New Naturalists

The New Naturalist programme is specially designed for Northumberland high school students wanting to obtain the nationally recognised John Muir Award. If you are aiming for a career in conservation or the environment or looking to make your CV stand out from the crowd.

Bumblebee Placements

We are offering two students a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in observing, catching and identifying Bumblebees and other pollinating insect species.

An understanding of good pollinator habitat and identification of the wildflower plant species most favoured by bees will also be gained with the guidance of one of the National Parks experienced Rangers.
