The Pax Britannica project had Roman educational focus with the aim of engaging young people with their cultural heritage in a fun and novel way. The scheme was supported by Hadrian’s Wall Tourism Partnership. Simon Brookes, who was the project manager at the time, described the event as a staggering success. "Some of the re-enactors said it was one of, if not the best event of its kind in Europe which is quite a compliment from people who have performed in the likes of Spain, France and Germany."

In addition to the re-enactments, the event included educational workshops in pottery, mosaics, other Roman activities such as felt- making and story-telling – all recreating the life of the Roman period. Local artists, and crafts people were also a major part of the events, helping to generate employment and increase spend in the local economy. In 2007/2008, Pax Britannica will be supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
