Battle Hill

On the road from Elsdon to Morpeth. Spectacular views to the Cheviots and towards the Scottish Border from the edge of the National Park. It’s also very near Winter’s Gibbet. For more, click here.

Carter Bar

A layby on the A68 on the England-Scotland border between Hass and Byrness. There are amazing views north into Scotland from here. The Scottish army passed through here on their way to the Battle of Otterburn in 1399. For more, click here.

Elf Kirk

Accessible by a short detour from the Lakeside Way or by car, the former quarry site of Elf Kirk provides one of the most iconic views of Kielder Water & Forest Park with a fine overlook of Merlin Brae, Whickhope Anchorage, Bull Crag and across to the Belling on the north shore. Deadwater Fell on the Scottish Border can also be seen on a clear day.
