Oak Tree in the College Valley, Northumberland National Park

Commercial Activities

Northumberland National Park Authority is responsible for three Visitor Centres, Once Brewed on Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site, Rothbury and Ingram in the Breamish Valley.

Included in this role are staff training, welfare and staff rotas. Merchandise is sold through these outlets including maps, gifts, books, clothing and confectionary. All merchandise is sourced locally where ever possible to support the local economy and businesses.

Two of the centres, Once Brewed and Rothbury, are also networked Tourist Information Centres. We work closely with One NorthEast to promote tourism and also with District Councils within the National Park. Our on-line shopping facility enables us to sell gifts, souvenirs local leaflets and publications via our website.

We run public events which are advertised on our web site, in the press and locally for which we charge a fee to cover the expenses incurred.

We also handle a number of commercial properties (farms, offices and shops)

We are responsible for the provision of car parks in places of tourist interest and in some cases levy a charge on these areas.
