Corporate Plans and Best Value
Our annual Corporate Plan (previously known as our Best Value Performance Plan) is produced in line with guidance agreed with our funders – the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the government's public sector watchdog – the Audit Commission.
Our Corporate Plan is aimed at those who want to understand what the National Park achieved last year and what we aim to achieve in the year ahead. It is a comprehensive document and includes:
- summary of our objectives for each function, e.g. cultural heritage;
- details of our current and recent past performances;
- plans of action for the coming year;
- the risks we face in delivering our key priorities and financial details of where our money was spent, where it will be spent and sources of income.
We are required under the Code of Practice on Workforce Matters to certify compliance of all individual contracts awarded during the past year which involve transfer of staff. During 2007/2008 two contract staff were subject to transfer.

As a local authority we need to review all our main public services once every five years. To date we have reviewed our visitor centres and planning services and we are currently reviewing the whole of our conservation, environment and cultural heritage service. To date, one service review - of our visitor centres - has been inspected by the Audit Commission. We welcomed the external inspection and although we did not agree with one of the judgements, we have taken on board all of the Audit Commission's recommendations.
