Economic Intelligence
Sustainable rural development, through increasing employment, enterprise, business growth and investment, as well as tackling economic disadvantage, is an important activity for this Authority and our partners.
The National Park Authority has a duty to 'seek to foster the social and economic well being of the area', but clearly cannot do this on its own. As a result we work in partnership with a number of organisations in the area, as we work towards our goal of sustainable rural communities. Our economic aims are set out in the statutory Northumberland National Park Management Plan.
We commission research and make sure that information and analysis is available and understood. Its purpose is to improve our understanding of the area, its economy, and to identify the issues facing local communities and workforce. This information underpins our policy making and is used to measure a number of things such as the 'State of the National Park'. We work with partnership bodies and the other local authorities in the gathering of economic intelligence.
