Funding the Project
Yeavering Bell
The project was established in 1999, following a successful trial, centred on the site at Yeavering Bell. The National Park Authority secured substantial funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (under the auspices of the Tweed Rivers Heritage Project), the European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund (via Government Office for the North East), and English Heritage, with in-kind contributions from Durham University, the Northumberland Archaeological Group, and English Heritage.
The initial funding package totalled some £670,000 and the success of the first phase of the project led to a second bid in 2002, which realised an extra £400,000, including a substantial grant from North Northumberland Leader+. This enabled Northumberland National Park Authority to carry out additional work through to December 2004.
