Hazardous Waste Collection
Hazardous waste is any liquid, gas or solid waste material that can cause harm by inhalation, ingestion or other physical contact. The most common examples that you can come across are
Asbestos – either in sheet form or fibrous wool like form and was used in building many years ago particularly fro roofing and insulation. A few forms, particularly "blue" asbestos can provide long term health damage if fibres or dust is inhaled. Please seek expert advice before touching asbestos or dismantling roofs or walls that may contain asbestos.
Contaminated fuels and oils – many oils and fuels are not only highly flammable but also can cause serious harm with skin contact or ingestion.
Industrial Chemicals – often fly tipped on public land to avoid disposal fees. Do not open any containers with unknown or potentially dangerous contents.
Old Weed Killer and other Garden Chemicals such as creosote – often found when houses are cleared. If you are unsure about disposal please seek expert advice. Liquids should not be disposed of into surface water or sewerage drains as serious contamination of the environment can occur.
