The National Park Archaeologist
Elsdon TowerThe National Park Arcaheologist has many responsibilities including:
- Advocacy of the international importance of the Northumberland National Park’s historic environment at local, regional and national level.
- Development of inclusive approaches to the protection, enhancement and interpretation of sites, landscapes and historic buildings.
- Provision of additional support for skills development and training for individuals and community groups to further develop the capacity for conservation of the historic environment.
- Encouragement of wider sustainable public and community access to historic sites to optimise their economic, educational and social potential.
- Improved understanding of the National Park’s heritage resource and implementation of the National Park Authority’s Archaeological Research Framework, through collaborative projects with local communities and educational establishments.
