Oak Tree in the College Valley, Northumberland National Park

Case Study: The Hytte

Amount awarded: £4,320

This single storey timber building, built in the style of a traditional Norwegian Hytte (pronounced: hut), has had a positive aesthetic and environmentally-friendly impact on the surrounding environment, most notably with its grass roof. Geothermal energy has also been harnessed to provide under floor heating.

The project was match funded by the applicants and a Rural Enterprise Scheme grant.
