John Barleycorn Festival

National Park funding has contributed to the costs of this community initiated project since the first event in 2006. Unfortunately the 2008 event became a victim to the weather but plans are already underway for the 2009 event.

The event has been developed by local businesses and community representatives from the Coquetdale Area and is a celebration of the whisky trade of Upper Coquetdale - both the legal and illicit activity historically associated with the rugged landscape of the Border valleys.

The event, held in autumn, aims to prolong the visitor season through offerring a range of attractions at a number of locations in the Coquet Valley.
