Case Study: Rothbury and Coquetdale Walking Festival

Rothbury and Coquetdale Walking FestivalRothbury and Coquetdale Walking FestivalAn Area Funds grant was awarded to local business Shepherd's Walks, run by Jon Monks, to assist with the development and delivery of the first Rothbury and Coquetdale Midsummer Walking Festival.

The event took place between 13th and 20th June 2009 with a range of guided walks on offer, from short family events through to full day strenuous hikes in the hills of the Coquet Valley.

The grant covered the costs of developing and running the event in its first year, and included costs associated with advance publicity and promotion, advertising and marketing,and training and equipment for new volunteer walks leaders, and transport costs for event participants.

A total of 256 places were taken on the walks throughout the festival week, with the linear walks proving to be particularly popular.
