Sustainable Tourism

Hethpool WeirTourism is pivotal to our vision for Northumberland National Park. On the one hand, it is a major source of employment and income generation in rural areas; on the other, it has the potential to impact upon the wildlife and the landscape and communities, and must be managed accordingly. It is also about people, local and visitor, having the opportunity to experience and make a connection with the National Park landscape, wildlife and heritage.

Our Approach

• We will support tourism development that celebrates respects and contributes to the protection and enhancement of the special qualities of the National Park.
• We will work with local communities to ensure their understanding of the relevance of tourism and their support for tourism development and to ensure that the economic and social benefits are evenly spread.
• We will market the National Park to new and existing audiences and ensure that the National Park is accessible to all.
• We will work with others to develop a high quality visitor experience
• We will raise public awareness of sustainable development and inspire visitors to contribute positively to the National Park and the environment.
