Oak Tree in the College Valley, Northumberland National Park

Chesters Walled Garden

Chesters Walled Garden is a beautiful 2-acre walled garden near Hadrian's Wall, famous for its herb and herbaceous collections. Seen many times in magazines and on television, including BBC 2's 'Gardeners' World'. The garden has a natural feel with wildflowers used alongside rare plants, all given structure by box hedges. Organically run, the garden attracts diverse wildlife with its two ponds and sympathetic planting and visitors can see birds and red squirrels in the surrounding woods. Features include a small Roman herb garden, the National Collection of Thyme grown on the colourful, raised Thyme Bank, a gold and silver garden, National Collection of Marjoram and extensive herbaceous borders full of unusual plants.
