Kidlandlee Cottages

In a unique location at 1250 feet, and a short distance from popular walking routes to the Scottish border and into Coquetdale, Kidlandlee is remote and peaceful, with spectacular uninterrupted views across hills and deep valleys. Far from roads and other buildings, and with no artificial light on the horizon, this is part of the area now officially the most tranquil in England.

For both serious and not-so-serious walkers and cyclists this is an ideal spot, and there are special overnight and short break budget offers, as well as the usual weekly terms. The Border County Ride is nearby, and, with grass livery available, riders are welcome to bring their own horses. For the less energetic or able, the cottages are single storey with level access.

The two traditional stone cottages each sleep 4. They are warm, practical and comfortably equipped, and have wood-burning stoves and central heating. Both have a garden area with barbecue. Linen and fuel are all included.

Kidlandlee is three miles from the national grid. Whilst heating and cooking is by gas at present, electricity is supplied by a stand-alone renewable energy system. A wind turbine and bank of photovoltaic solar panels generate power which is fed to an inverter and is stored in batteries. The inverter converts the battery output to mains power for all sockets and lights. There is a back-up diesel generator for when there is no wind, light or stored power. For people thinking of installing wind or solar power this is a perfect opportunity to 'try before you buy'.

The cottages use energy-saving lightbulbs, and environmentally friendly cleaning materials are provided. The water supply is spring-fed.
