Netherhouses Cottage, which dates from Victorian times, is a stone built shepherd's cottage adjoined to the main house.

The cottage is comfortably but simply furnished. The ground floor briefly comprises of a living room with a wood burning stove, satellite television and sofa bed. There are various books, maps and games in the cottage and internet access is available if guests bring their own laptop.

Adjacent to the living room, the kitchen includes a gas stove, fridge, microwave and there is a utility room with a washing Netherhouses Cottage - KitchenThe kitchenmachine and freezer.

Upstairs, there is one double bedroom, one single bedroom and a good sized bathroom.

The cottage is in good decorative order throughout. Heating and hot water are provided by a modern ground source heating system. This ecologically sound, preferred method of heating was partially funded by a grant from Northumberland National Park.

Surrounding Area

Netherhouses Cottage is extremely well situated for walks, wildlife and general exploring. This is an area rich in local history with the medieval ruined village of Evistones and the Roman camp of Bremenium nearby.

The Scottish Borders, the market towns of Hexham, Morpeth and Bellingham, Kielder Water, Hadrian’s Wall and Newcastle are all close by, within 45 minutes by car; Alnwick Gardens and the beautiful Northumberland coast a little further afield. There is a pub (with restaurant) about a mile away and a well stocked local shop in Otterburn.

The owners of Netherhouses, Jim and Claire Procter, live next door to the cottage and would be happy to provide advice and recommendations to visitors.
