Local Plans

Local Plans identify specific areas in the National Park where development may be allowed and where certain policies apply. These are indicated on a Proposals Map which is prepared on an Ordnance Survey base map.

The Local Plan is a key starting point if:

  • you wish to undertake any development in the National Park
  • you are considering buying a property
  • and you want more information on likely future development.

The National Park Authority has two adopted local plans at present. The National Park Local Plan (adopted in 1996) and Minerals Plan (adopted in 2000) can be viewed via the Planning Portal where the proposal maps are linked to the policy text. PDF versions of the policy texts are also available:

PLEASE NOTE  As a result of changes to the Planning System from the 27 September 2007 only those policies contained within the schedules below form part of the Northumberland National Park Local Plan and Minerals Local Plan, the other policies have expired:
