Statement of Community Involvement
Review of our Statement of Community Involvement
The Statement of Community Involvement outlines how the National Park Authority will involve residents, groups and other individuals who have an interest in the area and its communities in developing policies and making decisions which will have an impact upon the National Park.
Why review the Statement of Community Involvement?
The National Park Authority adopted its first Statement of Community Involvement in May 2006, since then;
- We have adopted a broader range of consultation techniques developed over the last four years;
- We want to include a wider range of issues, for example landscape, tourism, recreation, biodiversity and archaeology; and
- The Town and Country Planning regulations have changed which means our 2006 document is out of date.
A review of the document is underway, and the timetable for this is as follows:
| October – December 2009 | Initial review period |
| December 2009-February 2010 | Document Preparation |
| May-June 2010 | 6-week public consultation period on draft |
| June-August 2010 | Document preparation following consultation |
| September 2010 | Adoption of final Statement of Community Involvement |
Who can get involved ?
We want everyone who has an interest in the National Park to let us know how we can improve our consultation techniques. We especially welcome comments from those who feel that we won’t listen to their opinion.
What can I get involved in ?
The two statutory areas of work which you can influence are the Management Plan and Planning. Planning has two aspects, which are policy making and decision taking. Other work areas which you can get involved with are the policy and guidance documents which the Authority prepares, which may include topics such as Historic Environment; Cultural Heritage; Natural Environment; Understanding and Enjoyment; Climate Change; and Accessibility.
