Download the Northumberland National Park Management Plan (PDF Document)The Northumberland National Park Authority has a duty to prepare a National Park Management Plan as the framework for the delivery of the National Park statutory purposes and duty.  The Management Plan is the single most important document for the National Park, setting out the guiding principles, vision, objectives and actions for managing the National Park.

Although prepared by the National Park Authority, the Management Plan is for everyone: residents, businesses, visitors, public bodies, all organisations and individuals with a stake in the National Park.  The Management Plan will seek to guide the management of the National Park in a way which will help to achieve its statutory purposes and duty, improving the quality of life for those who live or work in the National Park or are visitors to it.  Therefore, not only does it set the framework for the National Park Authority’s own policies and activities but it will also shape the plans, strategies, and actions of all other bodies operating within the National Park.  The Management Plan is accompanied by Annual Action Plans which provide the detailed actions for the National Park Authority and its partners to deliver the objectives set out within the Management Plan.

The preparation of the Management Plan and the first Annual Action Plan has been led by the Management Plan Partnership, comprising:  Natural England, One North East, English Heritage, Forestry Commission, Defence Estates, Northumberland Tourism Limited, Northumberland National Park and County Joint Local Access Forum, Northumberland County Council and the Environment Agency.  In addition a number of other partners have contributed to the development of both the Management Plan and the first Annual Action Plan.

In order to record the condition of the National Park and to enable an assessment of progress in delivering the vision and outcomes a Monitoring Framework is currently being developed.  More information will be added to this page soon.
