Oak Tree in the College Valley, Northumberland National Park

Coquetdale Community Archaeology Events and Activities

Undertake archaeological training as part of Coquetdale Community Archaeology events programme! Anyone can get involved, and no previous experience of archaeology is necessary – all you need is an interest in the past and enthusiasm to have a go.

After three years of funding from Northumberland National Park, the group is in the process of becoming an independent entity. The Park will still provide advice and guidance, as will the one of the County Archaeologists, Chris Burgess, who has agreed to be our President.

Fieldwalking Finds Exhibition

An exhibition of fieldwalking finds will tour the valley this autumn. More details will be posted here when we have an exact schedule.

2008/9 Talks and Lectures

We are planning an extensive series of talks and lectures for the months ahead.

In November, Ian Colquhoun will talk to us about Bronze Age Metalwork, while in the New Year Colm O’Brien from the University of Sunderland will visit us, and Rachel Pope will be giving us an update on Clennel Street. We are also trying to arrange a presentation from Martin Wildgoose on the High Pasture Cave and Environs Project on Skye. This is a fascinating excavation, with more details on www.high-pasture-cave.org.

Cheviot Hills Heritage Project

The National Park’s neighbouring project in the Cheviots is running a wide range of events this autumn that includes guided walks, training and workshops. For more information, visit the Cheviot Hills Heritage Project Diary Dates.
