Drovers Agreements
For grazing to take place under the Drovers Project, an agreement was drawn up between
- Northumberland National Park Authority (the Drovers Project)
- the landowner
- and the grazier – i.e. the owner of the cattle due to graze the site.
In some cases the landowner and grazier were the same person, but generally the agreement was a three-way contract.
The Drovers Agreements specifed the details of the grazing for each site, including details such as:
- the type of livestock (i.e. breed)
- the stocking density
- the length of the grazing period – start and end dates
- responsibilities of each of the parties for the management of the site
The agreement also set out the monitoring aspects for each site, including livestock movement and vegetation monitoring recordings.
