Redpath : The Cattle

Galloways at Redpath © NNPAGalloways at RedpathThe cattle which grazed Redpath were Galloway and Belted Galloway from nearby Blakehope. A total of ten cows were on the site for the 2004 season, with the group comprising eight black Galloway and two Belted Galloway. The Drovers Agreement for Redpath was a three way contract between the Northumberland National Park Authority Drovers Project, the landowner, and the grazier.

Grazing to Date:

Redpath was grazed for the latter part of the 2004 season, between August and November. The cattle were introduced to the site later than was ideally planned. There was a great deal of infrastructure works required before the cattle could be introduced to the site, including re-fencing to make the site stock-proof and secure. This was delayed due to wet weather during August. The stocking density was also lower than originally planned.
