Ranger Service
Heather on Whin SillThe National Park Ranger Service and the Voluntary Ranger Service play a crucial role in caring for the National Park environment and access to it, and in helping visitors to enjoy and get the most out of the National Park.
The National Park Ranger Service provides a key on-the-ground link between local communities, visitors, and partner organisations, while the Voluntary Rangers support the Authority’s efforts to monitor and maintain the landscape, access facilities and wildlife habitats.
Associated with the Ranger Service is the Traditional Boundaries Training Scheme which runs an annual apprenticeship programme in dry stone walling and other heritage landscape management skills.
The Ranger Team is divided into two operational areas centred at Church House in Rothbury, covering the north of the National Park, and at Once Brewed in the south of the National Park on Hadrian's Wall. The Traditional Boundaries Training Scheme has training facilities at Walltown on Hadrian’s Wall, and at the National Park Visitor Centre at Ingram.
