Conservation
Staff provide advice on conservation and land use policy and deliver the National Park Authority's first purpose, the conservation and enhancement of the natural beauty, wildlife, archaeology and historic environment of the National Park.
Staff also deliver practical visitor management, conservation and community projects and contribute substantially towards the delivery of the National Park Authority's role as a planning authority. Current activities include an assessment of the National Park landscape, the production of the Local Development Framework, a major project centred on the Iron Age hillforts of the Cheviots, a project concerned with establishing the feasibility of traditional cattle breeds grazing wildlife rich areas and the establishment of a volunteer service for the Hadrian's Wall National Trail.
