Oak Tree in the College Valley, Northumberland National Park

Location and Facilities of Visitor Services

If you are a visitor to, or a resident in, the National Park, you will care about it and want to know that it is in good hands. At the National Park Authority we look after and improve the qualities that make Northumberland National Park a special place and provide opportunities for people to enjoy it.

We put local people and the economy at the heart of our work and we work towards development that sustains the special qualities of the National Park. We have set this out in our Vision for the National Park. We work closely with our partners and the local community and we are able to give grants and advice to help others achieve our Vision.

Northumberland National Park Authority is a local authority that has its purposes laid out in law. Northumberland was designated as a National Park in 1956 and since then work to achieve national park purposes has been carried out by local government first by Northumberland County Council and, since 1997, by the free-standing Northumberland National Park Authority.
