Ranger Services
The National Park Authority Ranger Service helps take the National Park Authority's message out to people and communities.
The Ranger Service, supported by the Volunteer Service and collectively called the Ranger Team, provide a crucial service in:
- helping visitors to appreciate, and get the most out of, the National Park
- engaging with local and urban communities to facilitate community action
- facilitating skills training and skills exchange in countryside and recreational management through mentoring and apprenticeships.
Operational areas include providing advice and guidance to visitors, maintaining public rights of way and access areas, practical conservation work and environmental education.
The Ranger Team operates throughout Northumberland National Park and people can meet representatives either when out and about or at the ranger operational centres of Church House at Rothbury in the north of the National Park or Once Brewed in the south on Hadrian's Wall.
The work of the Ranger Team is directed by a Ranger and Volunteer 5 Year Strategy (PDF format) which sets out the teams aims, objectives and core functions and includes a five year action plan providing clear direction and alignment with the National Park Authority's Management Plan and Vision.
