Members - General Information

Northumberland National Park Authority provides general information on members, including details of who they are and what they do.

Our Members and what they do:

Northumberland National Park Authority consists of 22 members who are appointed to represent local interests, local communities and also regional and national interests.

Six members are appointed from Northumberland County Council, within whose boundaries the National Park is situated.  

Six members are appointed by a government minister, the Secretary of State for Rural Affairs and Urban Quality of Life to represent Parish Council interests.  The four groupings of Parish Councils: Hadrian's Wall; North Tyne and Redesdale; Upper Coquetdale; and Cheviot each nominate one member and, following changes to membership arrangements as a result of teh introduction of Unitary government in April 2009, the Tynedale groupof Parishes and the Alnwick/Berwick upon Tweed group of parishes nominate one member each.

Ten Secretary of State appointees are appointed to represent the local, regional and national interest and are individuals with specialist knowledge, who live or have a particular interest in the National Park or have links to regional bodies or the Newcastle-Gateshead conurbation.
