Look out for black grouse in the College Valley, around Simonside and the Coquetdale area.

If you're lucky you may see Curlew © northeastwildlife.co.ukCurlewred squirrels or roe deer fawns in Conifer forests in areas such as Wark, Harwood and Simonside.

Bird lovers in Otterburn should be on the look out for tree pipits, redstarts, whinchats and willow warblers.

Birds of prey such as the peregrine falcon, goshawk and the buzzard may be seen in April in and around the Cheviots, on the Moors and on Hadrian's Wall. You may also see the curlew here (Europe's largest wading bird and the emblem of Northumberland National Park).

Otters and dippers can be seen in rivers and lakes in Northumberland National Park all year round.
