The Farmstead

West Kirknewton Farm © NNPAWest Kirknewton FarmThe farmsteads in the National Park include both traditional and modern buildings. These are used for housing livestock in winter as well as storing feed and machinery.

Some of the traditional buildings have been used for farming for centuries. Whilst their use does not always fit with modern farming methods (and animal welfare considerations are also making them redundant) they are historically worthy of preservation.
