Oak Tree in the College Valley, Northumberland National Park

Aspen

Aspen © Laurie CampbellAspenThis small native tree is known for its quivering leaves that make it look as if it is shaking in the wind, hence its scientific name Populus Tremula.  Aspens are found throughout Northumberland National Park but only in a few ancient woodlands and on some crags.  By fencing woodlands and crags to prevent grazing by stock we will help this species.
