Green Holidays

Sustainable Tourism – It’s in our nature.
Northumberland National Park is a great environment for responsible tourists. Here, you can find vast tracts of natural beauty ideal for walking, cycling and exploring, plus a host of visitor services with impeccable green credentials so it's easy to follow the green tourist code and have a holiday to remember!
We welcome visitors who want to tread lightly on the landscape and make a big impact on the local economy - making sure it is all still here for future generations to enjoy. So we support our green tourism businesses in every way we can.
Link to the local suppliers below to plan your visit. We can guarantee that they care about the countryside and many have won Green Tourism Business Scheme awards for their work to make their businesses as low-impact and nature-friendly as possible.

How to be a responsible visitor in the National Park
Leave the car behind Walking, cycling and horse riding are great ways to see the National Park. Use public transport where you can if you need to travel to your start point or leave your car at a one of our car parks. Try exploring near to where you are staying too. There are some fantastic places to see right on the doorstep of your holiday accommodation - ask your host and check out things to do!
Stay Local, Eat Local, Buy Local, See Local You can help the local economy to thrive by staying in rural accommodation and visiting farmers markets, farm shops, village stores, pubs and cafes. Our distinctive culture shines through the hundreds of rural shows and community events that happen throughout the year.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle You can help us by refusing packaging that you don’t need and taking your bags home to use again. Please take your litter with you too – it can be a serious hazard for wildlife.
Chill Out - Switch Off You can see thousands of stars at night in and around Northumberland National Park. Help us to keep light pollution at bay, energy use and CO2 emissions by switching off lights and standby buttons when you don’t need them. Help us reduce water consumption by using just the water you need; and then sit back and enjoy that view.
Follow the Countryside Code - it reminds us all to protect, respect and enjoy: Please look after plants and animals; take litter away; leave gates and property as you find them; keep dogs under close control, and consider rural residents and other visitors when visiting the countryside.
