Walks from Walltown
Two National Trails pass through Walltown, the Pennine Way and Hadrian’s Wall Path – these are both marked with a black acorn sign. Because of the linear nature of these trails, why not catch the Hadrian’s Wall Bus one way and walk back to Walltown?
See the on site timetable or ring the Hadrian’s Wall Information Line on 01434 322002.
Try one of the following:
- Bus to Housesteads and walk westward back to Walltown (approximately 16 kilometres – lots of short, steep climbs via spectacular Wall country)
- Bus to Once Brewed National Park Centre then walk back to Walltown (slightly shorter than above but taking in some of the best terrain – approximately 10 kilometres)
- Bus to Cawfields then walk to Walltown (approximately 6 kilometres, taking in some of the best preserved sections of Hadrian’s Wall at Walltown Crags)
Gentler walking is available by taking the bus west and walking back:
- Bus to Birdoswald and then walk eastward back along the Hadrian’s Wall Path back to Walltown (approximately 6 kilometres)
- Bus to Banks Turret gives you a longer walk via Birdoswald to Walltown (approximately 11 kilometres)
