Elsdon

Historic capital of Redesdale. This picturesque village centred around a large village green is the largest settlement in the National Park. It is ideal for starting out on many fine walks into the surrounding countryside.

Elsdon has a 14th century church where the dead from the Battle of Otterburn are reputed to be buried, a fascinating churchyard, a medieval tower house, the earthworks of a Norman motte and bailey castle. You can read more about the history of Elsdon in our Historic Village Atlas.

Other facilities include: a pub, riding stables, car parking, telephone box, toilets, the Impromptu Tearoom which also hosts a National Park Information Point and a fine craft studio.
