Volunteer Ranger Walks - Hadrian's Wall and Crag Lough
The walk from the Visitor Centre at Once Brewed follows the line of the Wall along the top of the whinsill escarpment giving good views to the north of Greenlee, Broomlee and Crag Loughs, remnants of the last ice age more than 10,000 years ago. The return using the Pennine way and public footpaths to the north, passing a 19th century lime kiln on the way, allows an appreciation of how the Wall must have looked to the northern tribes nearly two millennia ago. A fairly strenuous walk with many ups and downs but a much easier return route. 7 miles. 4.5 hours.Date: 26th Aug 2012 11:00am
