Car Parking in the Park

Car parks are plentiful in and around the National Park. Please park responsibly, within marked bays if they exist. Keep away from verges and leave enough room for other cars to manoeuvre.

Types

There are several types of car parks in the National Park.

Free council parking

Some short stay parking is now free is places like Hexham and Morpeth. All you have to display is a disc in the window. These are available from local businesses, libraries and information centres. Pick one up and keep it in the car just in case.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition

As of 2017 the Authority is rolling out Automatic Number Plate Recognition Systems  (ANPR) to a number of our larger sites. This will enable users to pay for just the time they stay at each car park. The first site that is operational is The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre.

Pay and display car parks

There is a daily car parking charge of £4 per vehicle, per day, but tickets are transferable between Northumberland National Park car parks along the route of Hadrian’s Wall. You can also buy a Hadrian’s Wall Car Parks Annual Pass for £30 from Walltown Visitor Centre.
