The Northumberland National Park Voluntary Ranger Service was founded in 1960. The Voluntary Ranger Service is an integrated service within the Ranger Team and supports the Rangers through:
- providing general support and advice for visitors to the National Park
- developing and carrying out conservation projects and improvements to physical access (including access for those with disabilities)
- participating in educational and promotional activities to increase awareness and understanding of the Park
The Voluntary Rangers also work alongside the Hadrian's Wall Path Volunteers.
The Voluntary Rangers operate throughout the National Park and many of us have a special interest, such as natural history, access and rights of way and cultural heritage, which we are keen to pass on to visitors. So if you meet us when out and about please do not be shy in asking for information as we can provide assistance on route planning and what conditions may be like.
If you feel you have something to offer to the Voluntary Ranger Service you will need:
- no particular qualifications, just a love of the countryside;
- to know about the background, aims and objectives of National Parks in general, and basic knowledge of Northumberland National Park in particular;
- to be at least 16 years of age to meet our insurance requirements.
We currently have a full Voluntary Ranger service and are not recruiting for new members. This is reviewed on a regular basis, please check back for updates.
If you're interested in volunteering in another area of community work the Northumberland Life website has a list of local community groups
