Aim 2 - A Distinctive Place

Aim 2 contains objectives which contribute to the first purpose of National Parks; to ‘Conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage’ of the national park. The four desired outcomes of Aim 2 focus on the restoration of habitats, improving biodiversity, restoration and conservation of historic monuments and cultural heritage and the preservation of the National Parks landscape and special qualities.

Tranquillity is a key quality of Northumberland National Park and we have established development policies to ensure that we retain the large open landscape that we have inherited. We aim to make recreation sustainable within the park, either by limiting erosion on footpaths with flag stones, or by engaging through social media about preserving our busier sites for others. There are also specific targets in the Natural Environment Vision about habitat restoration, the status of our Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and trees.
