Making great memories and supporting the rural economy
We want visitors to the National Park to have a great time; to be confident in exploring our wonderfully diverse landscapes; to be able to find peace and tranquillity; as well as activity and adventure.
The Authority’s purpose is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to access, enjoy and understand the special qualities of the National Park, and in doing so, can support the social and economic aspirations of those that live in the Park as well. ‘Sustainable Tourism’ ensures that the conservation of our protected landscapes and the needs of future generations to make a living, are not compromised by the actions we take today.
The Sill National Landscape Discovery Centre, on Hadrian’s Wall is our main gateway destination. It provides a welcome to all and much inspiration; hosting events throughout the year, and well as encouraging many to go further into the Park for those truly memorable experiences.
Northumberland National Park is blessed with hundreds of miles of walking and cycling routes, which are maintained by Rangers and other members of staff. An ongoing programme of improvements ensures that our sites and facilities make the Park more welcoming to all.
We also work closely with our tourism partners, both at a local and national level to create new visitor experiences. Such as the development of activities and events around our dark skies for example. This helps to ensure that the visitor economy continues to benefit our rural communities.
