Raku Pottery Taster Workshop

Event date:
20th October 2019
Time:
13:00
Location:
The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre

Come and develop your decorating skills, with a drop-in taster session of raku pottery with the Muddy Fingers Pottery team.

The workshop is suitable for all abilities and ages, as long as you can paint with a paintbrush you can do raku! Using various bespoke Muddy Fingers glazes and different glaze resist technique, you will paint up your tile or pot ready to be fired in the Raku kiln. The Muddy Fingers team will fire your pot or tile on your behalf, until the glaze melts at around 950 degrees Celsius.

They are taken out of the kiln at that top temperature and placed into a tightly covered sawdust bin for the post-reduction magic to happen. Lots of copper, silver and bronze colours will develop at this stage. Once cooled down a little, they are taken out of the bin and placed into a bucket of water for final cooling and ready to clean down. The pots are then dried and ready to take home in around an hour, so why not use this time to explore The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre and collect your pot or tile before heading home.

This is a drop-in event running from 1pm - 4pm.

There will be a range of our tiles such as birds, fish, skulls etc or pots for pens and plants, so there’ll be plenty of choice to suit all.

Tiles will cost £8 and Pots will cost £15 - payable on the day.
