On this one-day course, a perfect introduction to the art of making useful household items from logs, we’ll start with locally sourced ash to make simple legs using traditional hand tools such as axes, drawknives and spokeshaves.

Then using milled boards, also of locally sourced hardwood, we’ll drill round mortices to accept the legs. In no time at all we’ll have the essence of a great looking stool.

Under the guidance of professional green woodworker Maurice Pyle (Woodsmith), the north east's best known traditional craftsman, you will be patiently and expertly led through each stage to produce an item of enduring beauty.

Working with green wood…… it’s the way forward!

The session runs from 10am - 4pm.
