Salters Road and the Shepherds Cairn Walk

This spectacular walk visits the memorial to two shepherds who lost their lives in 1962.

Starting from the church in Alnham the walk heads north west on Salter’s Road to the ‘Shepherd’s Cairn’ near Ewartly Shank. We then turn south towards Pigdon’s Leap & Tod Stones.  Then, at Hazeltonrig Burn, east for Hazeltonrig & north east to Alnham.

Enjoy some splendid views in this beautiful remote countryside.

Starting point (please meet here approximately 10 minutes before the walk start time): Alnham Church

From Rothbury take the B6341 west to Thropton. At the 'Cross Keys' take the road on the right for Netherton, at the school junction turn right for Alnham. Park on the grass verge in front of the church.
