The Drake Stone Guided Walk

Following extensive damage caused by Storm Arwen we have taken the decision to cancel all guided walks in January and February.

Please stay away from woodland areas at this time and follow Northumberland National Park Authority on social media for updates. If visitors or the local community would like to report an issue on a right of way within the National Park, please contact stormarwen@nnpa.org.uk.

Our walk takes us up through a wood to the 'Drake Stone' and then on to Harbottle Lake.

We then descend to Alwinton Church before turning east towards the Lime Kiln & Park House. There are wonderful views from here of the Drake Stone & Harbottle Castle. Continuing east, we pass to the north of Harbottle Castle before taking the footbridge back into the village.

From Rothbury take the B6381 west through Thropton. At ‘Flotterton’ take the right signed ‘Alwinton’. Harbottle is about 5 miles. The car park is in the woods on the left about 0.3 miles after the village.

For those wishing to use GPS/Sat-Nav to find walk start points please note that, particularly in open-country, postcodes cover a large area, so, whilst the postcode will get you to the right general area, you will still need to follow the detailed directions to locate the actual Walk Start Point.
