About the Walk

Our walk begins with a steady climb from the village onto Thorngrafton Common with good views of the South Tyne valley before crossing the Roman Stanegate road en route to Housesteads Fort via east East Crindledykes.

We then follow the Wall eastwards over Hotbank Crags with good views of Crag Lough and to the south of Vindolanda Fort. We descend close to the fort passing a Roman milestone on the way before taking footpaths above the burn back to Bardon Mill.
