Introduction to Navigation courses

Our range of Introduction to Navigation courses are your key to getting started in countryside and moorland walking. If you do have some experience of hill walking but perhaps lack confidence when it comes to planning walks, or navigating and understanding the equipment required, then a Hill Skills course is an ideal way to start.

No experience of hill walking is required to attend our introductory courses, as the content of the course is aimed at beginners. This one-day course will hopefully result in attendees gaining an interest in navigation and give participants more confidence to explore new areas on their own.

You will learn and practice some useful navigational techniques, including map and compass work, in an informal and relaxed environment. Our courses are held in Northumberland National Park throughout the year, and during the sessions you will cover up to 5 miles of walking with plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Maps and compasses will be supplied.

Our Introductory events are ideal for anyone following the NNAS programme as an introduction. Do keep an eye out for our Bronze and Silver Award training events coming up.
