Northumberland National Park Authority is seeking to recruit an Independent Person to assist in promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct amongst its Members and Co-opted Members.

The Localism Act 2011 requires the Authority to appoint an Independent Person whose views are to be sought, and taken into account, before making a decision on a conduct allegation being investigated.  The views of the Independent Person may also be consulted on other standards matters, including by the Member who is the subject of an allegation.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate a keen interest in standards in public life and a wish to serve the local communities within the National Park. High standards of personal integrity, independence and impartiality are key. Effective questioning, sound decision making and leadership skills are vital.

You cannot be appointed as an Independent Person if you are or, in respect of (a) below, if you were at any time during a period of 5 years prior to the appointment:

(a)        a Member, Co-opted Member or officer of the Authority; or

(b)        a relative or close friend of a person within category (a) above.

Travel and subsistence expenses are payable in respect of your duties and the position is eligible for an allowance.
