About our committee

The Development Management Committee is responsible for all of the Northumberland National Park Authority’s functions relating to planning and development control. It makes decisions on planning applications, including those which relate to listed buildings or buildings in conservation areas, and can authorise enforcement action where development has taken place without planning permission.

Please note that meetings and start times will be confirmed nearer the time.  Meetings will normally take place at National Park offices unless otherwise indicated.

Development Management Committee members

At the Authority’s Annual Meeting on 21 June 2023 the following nine members were elected to the Development Management Committee: Cllr Sue Bolam, Ms Marie Fallon, Cllr Val Gibson, Cllr Len Glen-Davison, Cllr Mark Mather, Cllr Julian Morrison-Bell, Mr Chris Mullin, Cllr John Riddle and Cllr Alan Sharp.

Julian Morrison-Bell was re-elected DMC Chair and Cllr John Riddle re-elected DMC Deputy Chair.

Development Management Committee meetings are open to members of the public. The agenda and reports will be made available during the week prior to the meeting. Papers from previous meetings are also available.

Would you like to attend?

Members of the public are welcome to attend all meetings of the Development Management Committee. Items under Part 1 of an agenda are taken in public. Where there are items under Part 2 of the agenda which contain exempt information under Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972 the press and public will be excluded from that part of the meeting.

Public Speaking: Opportunities for members of the public to address the Development Management Committee with regard to planning applications which are being considered are available at all Development Management Committee meetings.  For further details, please consult the Public Speaking Scheme Guidance document(from 1 January 2015).  Please note that from 1 January 2015 the earlier time to register to speak is now no later than 12 noon, two working days before the date of the meeting.

Member site visits

A site visit by the Development Management Committee may be held in connection with applications where the impact is difficult to visualise or assess from plans. The protocol for DMC site visits is set out in the Development Management Committee Site Inspection Procedure (from 1 January 2015).
