Car Parking in the National Park

Car parks are plentiful in and around Northumberland National Park.

Please park responsibly, within marked bays if they exist. Keep away from verges and leave enough room for other cars to manoeuvre.

You can purchase an Annual or One Day Hadrian’s Wall Car Parking Pass from The Sill. This allows unlimited car parking in all NNPA operated Hadrian’s Wall car parks.

There are several types of car parks in the National Park.

Car Parking Charges

We operate Automatic Number Plate Recognition Systems  (ANPR) at The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre and Housesteads Car Parks.
The Sill (ANPR)

1st 15 mins.                 Free

Up to 2 hours             £2.00

Additional time £1.00 per hour thereafter up to a maximum of £5.00 (£5 all day).

£10.00 overnight (Cars and Motorhomes may be parked and left overnight but camping and overnighting in motorhomes is not allowed)

 

Housesteads (ANPR)

1st 15 mins.                 Free

Up to 3 hours              £4.00

Additional time – £2.00 per hour thereafter to a maximum of £10 (£10 all day).

No overnight parking.

Visitors wishing to pay for parking after their visit to the Sill or Housesteads can visit the Park with Ease website, click ‘Make a Payment’ and follow the instructions online.

 

Brocolitia

Walltown Quarry

You can also buy either a One Day Hadrian’s Wall Car Parking Pass (£10) or an Annual Hadrian’s Wall Car Parking Pass (£50) from reception at The Sill.
This provides unlimited car parking in all of our car parks along Hadrian’s Wall including The Sill and Housesteads.

Free Council Parking

Some short stay parking is now free is places like Hexham and Morpeth. All you have to display is a disc in the window. These are available from local businesses, libraries and information centres. Pick one up and keep it in the car just in case.

A. All our car park charges go towards keeping the National Park special for future generations.

Q. How can I pay for my parking?

A. You can pay online, using your mobile or using cash or credit card.

Q. How long do I have to pay for my parking?

A. You have up to 48 hours after your visit to pay for your parking.

Q. Do I have to pay on the day of my parking?

A. No, you can pay up to 48 hours after your visit.

Q. Can I pay online?

A. Yes, simply visit www.parkwithease.co.uk and follow the simple instructions.

Q. What happens if I do not pay?

A. If you do not pay within 48 hours for your parking then Northumberland National Park Authority reserves the right to issue a Parking Charge Notice, currently £60 to be paid in 28 days of being issued but reducing to £35 if paid within 14 days of being issued.

Q. Do I need to display a ticket?

A. No, Park with Ease do not produce tickets to display.

Q. Do I get a receipt when I pay my parking tariff?

A. Yes, you get the option to request a receipt after paying your tariff.

Q. Is overnight parking or camping allowed?.

A. You may park a vehicle overnight at Walltown or at Cawfields, but you are not permitted to stay in the vehicle.
