From the car park do not cross the road but follow the wide grassy path uphill.

Explore Lordenshaws Hillfort

At the junction turn right and continue up the path into the hillfort. If you have time visit the cup and ring marked stones which are over to the left.

Most prehistoric rock art takes the form of shallow cups surrounded by concentric rings cut into the surface of the sandstone boulders and outcrops.

The significance of these carvings is unknown. Historians and archaeologists have all sorts of theories from crude maps to artistic representations of prehistoric settlements.

Continue on the well worn path

When you have finished exploring the site walk through the hillfort to the eastern entrance, marked by 3 large stones, and out by the sunken track. Go downhill for a short distance and turn left along the well-worn path.

The summit of Lordenshawas is crowned by a hillfort built 2500 years ago. Whoever built the fort chose the best possible site. It has a tremendous vantage point overlooking the Upper Coquet Valley and is protected by the prevailing wind by the long ridge of Simonside.
