Step by step route

From the car park

From the car park do not cross the road but follow the wide grassy path uphill.

At the junction, turn right

At the junction turn right and continue up the path into the hillfort.If you have time visit the cup and ring marked stones which are over to the left settlements.

When you have finished exploring

When you have finished exploring the site walk through the hillfort to the eastern entrance, marked by 3 large stones, and out by the sunken track. Go downhill for a short distance and turn left along the well-worn path.

Continue on the well-worn path

Continue on the well-worn path through the heather.

Carry on downhill

Carry on downhill to the stile in the fence ahead. Cross the stile and walk down through the field to the next stile.

Once over the stile...

Once over the stile continue downhill to the burn, cross the burn and walk uphill to the fence ahead.

Go over the stile

Go over the stile and, keeping the fence on your right, continue up the field to the gate. Go through the gate and turn left along the farm track.

Turn left

Turn left onto another farm track, signed Whittondean/Lordenshaws fort, and continue along this track to the farm.

Keep the farm buildings...

Keep the farm buildings and house on your left. Once past the house turn right and continue downhill along the track.

As the track bear to the left

As the tracks bears up to the left, take the path off to the right and carry on to the stile.

Cross the stile

Cross the stile and follow the path as it winds its way uphill.

Continue through the gap in the wall

Continue through the gap in the wall, turn right and carry on up the path, keeping to the right of the fort.

Retrace your steps

Once back at the junction retrace your steps back to the car park.
