Walltown Country Park

The route follows some of the most impressive sections of Hadrian’s Wall with excellent  panoramic views before visiting the fort at Aesica with its impressive altar where  people still leave their “offerings” today. We then head north returning via the Tipalt Burn before   to Thirlwall Castle, a 14th century stronghold against the “Border Reivers”.  Enjoy fabulous views and immerse yourself in the fascinating history of this border region.

Dress for changeable weather and wear suitable footwear. Bring a packed lunch, snacks and a drink for the break.
Dogs are not permitted at this event.

On the A69 (Newcastle to Carlisle road) take the B6318, signed ‘Greenhead’ after 1 mile take a left to Walltown. Walltown car park is just past the Roman Army museum on the right.  (Hadrian’s Wall Bus stops here)
