Our walk begins with a steady climb from the village onto Thorngrafton Common with good views of the South Tyne valley before crossing the Roman Stanegate road en route to Housesteads Fort via East Crindledykes. We then follow the Wall westwards over Hotbank Crags with good views of Crag Lough and to the south  over Vindolanda Fort.
